How Do You Spell That Place?

Fun Facts about Serving in Vanuatu:

We are leaving shortly to begin our fifth Mission Corps/Global Missions assignment where we will serve in the Asia-Pacific Region on the South Pacific island of Vanuatu, which has a population of 264,652.  So, we will not be alone.  We have been invited to teach English courses at the South Pacific Nazarene Theological College and begin Conversational English Groups as an outreach for the church.

We will live in the city of Port Vila in a 2-bedroom apartment that has ceiling fans in each room.  Fans are a big deal because we will be there during the hot, rainy season (with the possibility of cyclones).

Listed below are some great questions that inquiring minds have asked:

    1) Where is Vanuatu?
    2) How do you spell that?
    3) How do you pronounce that?
    4) How far will you be from the beach? (We don't know)
    5) How many vaccinations do you have to take? (None this time. We have already had
Typhoid, Hepatitis A & B, and Yellow Fever)
   6)  Will it be hot?  Oh, yes!  The daily temps range from 70-90 degrees with high humidity
   7)  How far will you be from the beach? (We are not sure)
   8)  How many students are enrolled in your classes?  (12 students - perfect number!)
   9)  Will both men and women take your classes? (We hope so!)
  10)  What is the exchange rate for the American dollar? (One dollar=106 Vantus)
  11)  How far will you be from the beach? (We haven't asked :/ )
  12)  Did you need to write the curriculum for the 2 English courses that you will teach?
(Yes, but I like to write curriculum.  I will use Biblical references to teach our tenses
          and writing strategies)
  13)  How long is your flight?  Dallas→L.A. (3h)→Sydney (141/2 h)→Vanuatu (3h)
  14)  Did you ask how far you will live from the beach? ( Uh, no.  Read our blog to find out)
  15)  Will you be safe there? (Absolutely! On every mission assignment, we have been surrounded
by watchful missionaries and new Christian friends who have our interest at heart)

"...And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message so that we may
proclaim the mystery of Christ..."  (Colossians 4:3)

We are going to the Middle of Nowhere
But your prayers will still get there!
                                                            Please pray with us...

...for the men and women pastors who attend these college English classes
...for few distractions and interferences in their lives during this time
...for clarity and focus for both the students and Jim and Linda
...for relationship building and Friendship Evangelism opportunities
...for health and safety for Jim and Linda
...for opportunities to serve within the community

Thank you for reading our blog!   Keep reading and keep tracking!
